The Power/Outcomes from Projects

Use the following ingredients when designing a project:

1.  Skills:  1 to 2 life skills
2.  Content:  2 to 3 state standards
3.  Habits of Mind: 1 personal strengths




















Intra-personal:             Independence, Assertiveness, Self Awareness

Stress Management:  Deadlines, Impulse Management

Adaptability:                Problem Solving, Flexibility, Reality Testing

Inter-personal:             Empathy, Listening, Conflict Resolution,
                                         Social Responsibility

School Culture Hints:

1.  Get to know all your students individually and focus on "The Kindness Factor"
2.  Make your classroom a creative and personal learning environment
3.  Make kids safe and make sure they know you want them to be safe at all times
4.  Let kids create and build things  (Dewey - "Understanding is derived from activity")
5.  Challenge your students / Keep them moving from one project to the next
6.  Don't "low-ball" students, always push them to achieve higher goals
7.  Get the horses running first and keep them running
8.  Kids need rigor and respect in the classroom
9.  Have fun with what you teach and teach what you love
10.  Bring your personal interests into the curriculum and build around that passion
11.  Try to bring in bonding activities (similar to camp activities)
12.  Culture, Structure and Academics
13.  It's hard to get your culture back once it's gone - don't loose it
14.  Look for opportunities to learn
15.  Take fun seriously and don't work...play at what you do

18.  You can get from one "X" to any other "X" by just doing it...but it's the journey that connects us between the 2 and that's what makes it interesting.
